General Information About Virtual Communications: Now and In The Future

Yael’s Presentation on General Information about Virtual Communications

general information about virtual communicationsYael is speaking on general information about virtual communications now and in the future at the 21st Annual SHRM-LI Conference, and since this topic is so significant 800+ attendees will join her. Because of the large number of attendees, we will run two workshops, which will allow attendees to choose the more convenient time for them either 9:45am or 11:15am.

Yael’s sessions on general information about virtual communications include interactive discussions and exercises that engage attendees with practical knowledge for managing virtual work teams.

Here’s our workshop description:

The face of Virtual Work Teams is increasingly common today, due to the rise of technology and globalization. As they reshape the way we do business they are no longer a phenomenon. But how to create and manage these teams is a skill that many managers need to develop more fully.

As Yael says in her book A Manager’s Guide to Virtual Teams:
“Within the next decade the phrase ‘virtual mindset’ will be commonplace as organizations strive to maximize their resources in a world of hyper-competition. As virtual leaders, you will be responsible for instilling this point of view in team members. No matter what differences in culture, national characteristics or personal style these individuals bring to the group, they will need to adapt a world view to effectively meet the needs of the organization. And you, the leader, will be front and center in making this mindset a reality as you propel your team along the virtual superhighway.
I believe that the term ‘virtual team’ will lose its meaning as work arrangements will increasingly be partly virtual and partly onsite. As younger generations step into the workforce their life styles will lend themselves to flexible work arrangements, and virtual work will become an accepted norm. Advances in technology will create more options to work in more convenient places. People will need to create their own strategies to form an acceptable boundary between work and home. (We already see how being connected 24/7 has eroded boundaries between our work lives and our private lives).”

This workshop on general information about virtual communications will examine the unique communication issues faced by teams that no longer sit in the same building or the same city and discuss how to achieve the all important context communication in the virtual workplace. Common challenges like keeping team members engaged, bringing ‘lost riders’ into the fold and avoiding excessive multitasking will be addressed. In addition, attendees will hear about AIM’s research findings, learn practical tips, and take away tools and techniques from “A Manager’s Guide to Virtual Teams” book.

Registration for this conference is still available. We hope to see you there on Friday!
